Can you believe that Saturday Night Live was almost cancelled in the 1980s? It's a startling thought now, especially as the franchise just came off its milestone 51st season on NBC with a stellar roster of stars like Teyana Taylor, Ryan Gosling, SabrinaCarpenter, and Josh O'Connor, and looking toward its next season. While the recently launched Saturday Night Live UK has received a mixed reception from critics and audiences, its renewal suggests the franchise is still willing to take creative risks — something that's been baked into SNL's DNA from the beginning.

Chris Chibnall's stint as showrunner in the late 2010s sparked disquiet within the fanbase and led to a decline in viewing figures. Hoping to salvage a franchise with huge potential, the BBC teamed up with Disney and brought back showrunner Russell T. Davies for a new era, packed with big-budget set pieces, plenty of callbacks, and even a new face of the series in Ncuti Gatwa.


Just a week ago, Netflix released the second season of the addictive British murder mystery that never fails to keep fans glued to their screens, but it appears that viewers aren't as invested this time around. Set in the fictional English town of Little Kilton, the series follows a brilliant teenager who investigates the mysterious disappearance of a popular high school senior, only to become entangled in a web of secrets and lies that threatens to upend everything she thought she knew about her community.
