A former substitute teacher in Connecticut was arrested after she allegedly slapped a 12-year-old girl at school, and three witnesses corroborated the victim’s version of events.

Connecticut State Police confirmed that Ruthanna Terreri was charged with third-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor on May 6 in connection with an incident that took place on April 17 at Chester Elementary School, according to the New Haven Register.

A trooper responded to the school around 12:40 p.m. after the victim’s mother reported that her daughter had been slapped by a teacher, according to a warrant viewed by the outlet.

Upon the trooper’s arrival, Principal Tyson Stoddard said that Terreri, 64, was the teacher involved in the incident. Stoddard also told investigators Terreri, who worked as a long-term substitute, had been placed on administrative leave and was escorted out of the building following the allegations.

The victim also spoke to police, claiming that Terreri struck her in the head twice with an open palm when she was helping with a live school broadcast. The girl said she was startled by the first slap and that the second one was painful.

“She further stated that Terreri did not speak after either strike and that she did nothing to provoke the incident,” police wrote in the warrant.

Authorities said that the victim did not appear to be injured, and the incident was reported to the state Department of Children and Families.

Three other students that were present at the time of the incident provided sworn statements to corroborate the victim’s claims. Additionally, police said that each student said Terreri hit the student on the head with an open palm.

Two of the witnesses said they saw Terreri strike the victim twice, but a third student said the victim was slapped three times. All of the witnesses said the victim told them the slap was painful.

Terreri met with police on May 6 and denied striking the student. Instead, she claimed that she tapped the child on the head to instruct her when to press a button to move to the next slide during the live broadcast, according to the warrant.

Additionally, Terreri said she initially tapped the victim on the back of her head with her index and middle fingers. However, the student allegedly didn’t respond so she tapped her several more times in the same manner.

“She further stated that the broadcast concluded successfully and that she told the students they did a good job before they left the room,” police wrote in the warrant.

Superintendent Brian White said that Terreri was not employed by the district at the time of her arrest, according to the New Haven Register. However, it is not clear if she resigned or was fired.

Terreri was released from custody on a $5,000 bond and is next scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Middletown on Thursday, May 21, for her arraignment.

It is not currently clear if Terreri has retained legal counsel following her arrest. The Connecticut State Police did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment regarding her arrest.

For Mindy Kaling, having her weight loss be discussed on the internet is something she can understand.

“It’s sometimes no fun when one of your favorite actors loses weight. You have an idea of what they were like when you grew attached to them, and it made them endear themselves to you,” Kaling, 46, told Bustle in a profile published on Tuesday, May 19. “Of course, it’s never a joy to be scrutinized, but also I truly understand it, as someone who consumes pop culture.”

Kaling, who has three children, shared that her decision to lose weight stemmed from her realization that she needs to “live at least 20 more years” for her family. (The Mindy Project actress is mom to Katherine “Kit,” 8, Spencer, 5, and Anne, 2. She has never publicly disclosed the identity of the father of her children.)

“Do I wake up every day being like, ‘I look amazing and I’m so gorgeous’? No, unsurprisingly, but I truly feel so healthy,” she said.

I had it on both sides of my family, and trying to avoid those kinds of things will, I think, help longevity for me, and that’s my goal.”

Years later, Kaling shared that pregnancy had shifted her mindset. “I feel like in conversations about fitness and exercise, if you’re going to be talking about someone who’s healthy and fit, you have to be a hard body with, like, a six-pack,” she told Shape in 2021. “But that’s not really how it works, and I have learned to embrace [my body] in the past six months [since having a baby].”

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown married his longtime partner, Kelsey Riley, last weekend, but it appears many of his teammates were not in attendance — including old friend and quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The intimate ceremony happened at the Montage Laguna Beach resort in California on Saturday, May 16, against the backdrop of reported turmoil surrounding the team. Hurts, 27, did not attend the wedding, according to TMZ Sports.

Former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy suggested that the relationship between Hurts and Brown, 28, is “not what it used to be.”

“I think sometimes, when it’s a work relationship and where friends outside a work relationship are not delivering on the field, maybe because of his fault (or the others’), the relationship might get affected,” McCoy, 37, said in an appearance on the Monday, May 18 episode of the “Speakeasy” podcast. “And I think this is the problem we have right here. … Now there’s a little bit of friction there.”

He added, “I don’t make a big deal about it. … It’s time to move on . … I think the issue here is, football has messed up their relationship.”

Though it’s unclear if any current members of the Eagles were at the ceremony, the relationship between Hurts and Brown is different. The two have been friends since high school and Hurts is the godfather to Brown’s daughter.

“A former teammate once described them as ‘an old married couple,’ but I’m told they’re not that close these days,” NFL insider Dianna Russini, formerly of The Athletic, reported in October 2025. “Like any friendship, life happens. Family responsibilities, the grind of being pros, shifting priorities.”

Now, the Eagles are reportedly looking to trade Brown and multiple outlets have reported they are likely to reach a deal with the New England Patriots on or around June 1.

Russini’s report came around the time reports began surfacing that Eagles teammates were frustrated with Hurts. The veteran quarterback responded in November 2025 by trying to redirect focus back to the field.

“I’m not surprised by anything. This is kind of the nature of the position,” he told reporters at the time. “But I put my energy and my focus on trying to go out there and do my best and trying to learn, trying to build, trying to take in the things that I can to try and improve.”

He continued, “I guess I get a lot of attention when things are going well and when things are not going so well. I never run away from holding myself accountable, and I think that’s exactly what I’ve taken the approach of doing.”

Hurts also took responsibility for the team’s struggling offense. After entering the 2025 season as the defending Super Bowl champions, the Eagles sputtered all season and eventually lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card Playoffs.

“I take great pride in what we do on offense,” he said. “I take great pride in how we go out there and play as a team and what our flow is. I think we’ve got work to do, and that obviously starts with me. That’s always my approach. That’s always me looking internally first in everything that we do and then in due time rising above.”

Yellowstone fans were shocked when Marshals killed off Kelsey Asbille‘s character, Monica — but the spinoff may not have had a choice.

Puck reported that Marshals ran into issues when plotting out the new CBS show centered on Kayce Dutton’s (Luke Grimes) life after Yellowstone. To avoid making the new series too identical to its flagship show, Marshals chose to remove Monica from the narrative and shift the voice of the show to be more of a fast-paced procedural.

According to the newsletter, Paramount allegedly worked with lawyers for months on how to successfully feature other Yellowstone leads Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) in their own Dutton Ranch spinoff without facing potential legal issues over their story being too similar to the OG show.

CBS and Paramount have not publicly addressed the Puck report.

Paramount Network’s Yellowstone, which aired from 2018 to 2024, introduced Us to Kayce and his wife, Monica, who remained at the center of the show until the finale. After teaching at a local school on the Broken Rock Indian Reservation, Monica went on to become a professor at Montana State University while navigating life with Kayce, who moved them back to the Yellowstone Ranch following his past tension with dad John (Kevin Costner).

Following John’s death, Kayce, a former U.S. Navy SEAL, became the new owner and operator of the Yellowstone Ranch. Kayce and Monica ended the show alive — and were still together — before Marshals began.

When the series premiered in March, however, fans learned Monica had died after battling cancer.

“Kayce had such a perfect ending in Yellowstone,” showrunner Spencer Hudnut told TVLine at the time. “His dreams had finally come true. As we were trying to figure out how to tell the next chapter in Kayce’s story, it felt like he really needed to be shaken out of that. Unfortunately, tragedy tends to find Kayce, so something bad was going to happen for him one way or the other. It just sort of played out that it was going to be Monica.”

Hudnut said Monica’s death will continue to drive Kayce, adding, “To me, Monica is really guiding Kayce through this first episode, trying to help him find his new path. And if you actually break it down, Tate is at that rally to honor his mother, and Kayce goes there to protect Tate. So if not for Monica, Kayce never would have been in that position and may not have found this path.”

He concluded: “We really wanted to be respectful of the way that we said goodbye to her. I also didn’t want to step on the ending of Yellowstone, because what they had was a beautiful ending. Unfortunately, real life intervened.”

Asbille, 34, has not yet broken her silence on Monica’s onscreen death. She did grant access for her likeness to be used on the show, which allowed Marshals to show photos of the fictional character on screen.

Marshals airs on CBS Sundays at 8 p.m. ET.

Human remains found outside of a home in West Virginia have been identified as a 16-year-old girl, with the discovery being made just one week after her stepfather was arrested on separate charges related to alleged sexual abuse.

James Truman was arrested on May 8, just four days after his stepdaughter, Shayln Harvey, was reported missing on May 4.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Monday, May 18, that human remains were found on the property of a home in Big Chimney, West Virginia, on Friday, May 15. The remains have since been confirmed to have belonged to Harvey.

Truman, 52, is currently in custody on charges of incest and sexual abuse by parent, guardian, custodian or other person in position of trust to a child.

Stepfather of 19-Year-Old Who Vanished 10 Years Ago Arrested for Sex Offenses

Despite his charges being connected to the teen, he has not been charged in connection with Harvey’s death as of time of publication.

Harvey was last seen on May 2 in the same area where her remains were found. The sheriff’s office confirmed that she was reported missing two days later on May 4. Police originally said she may have gotten into a “blue Dodge Ram pickup truck from the early 2000s” at the time of her disappearance.

As the investigation into Harvey’s disappearance continued, police obtained a search warrant for a residence in the Big Chimney area. Kanawha County Chief Deputy Sean Snuffer said during a press conference on May 15 that the residence was where Harvey lived with her mother and Truman, according to WOWK.

An autopsy has been completed on Harvey’s body, but there is not yet a confirmed cause of death. The sheriff’s office added that they are currently investigating Harvey’s death as a homicide.

Truman’s incest and sex abuse charges stem from an incident that allegedly took place on or around April 15, according to online court records viewed by Law & Crime. However, no additional details about the alleged incident have been publicly shared.

It is not currently clear if Truman has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following his arrest.

Truman is still in custody at the Kanawha County Jail and is being held on $100,000 cash bond. His next court date regarding his current charges has not yet been announced.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office told Us Weekly they have no additional information to share regarding Harvey’s homicide investigation or Truman’s arrest. Police added that investigations into the two cases remain ongoing.

Chicago Cubs star Pete Crow-Armstrong apologized for his behavior after an interaction between him and a female Chicago White Sox fan went viral. 

“I just regret my choice of words the most and who that affects in my life. Directly and indirectly,” Crow-Armstrong, 24, told reporters on Monday, May 18. “I don’t think that any of the women in my life would ever think that I would use those kinds of words regularly. Especially referring to them. So, I was just bummed out about the word choice and that a bunch of little kids find their way onto social media and see that as well.”

During the Cubs’ road game against the White Sox on Sunday, May 17, Crow-Armstrong was caught using sexually-explicit language and calling a female fan a “bitch” after he nearly made a spectacular catch in the outfield, which ultimately led to a two-run double for the Sox. 

“I’ve gotten a lot of support from the people that know me,” Crow-Armstrong continued. “I think most of them know that’s something that came out specifically related to baseball and the situation at hand. That’s not something I pride myself on, calling people names like that.”

Crow-Armstong — who has become a superstar in Chicago and was selected to his first All-Star Game last season — acknowledged he has to keep his emotions in check, but maintained that he’s not going to lose his notorious edge.

“I don’t want to let that deter me from the competitiveness that I feel out on the field,” he said. “I think channeling it in a different way would probably be my next task. That’s something I should be aware of at all times, that there will be cameras on me. I’m not always going to let stuff like that fly either. It’s just about being a little more respectful and maybe killing somebody with kindness instead of matching their level of intent.”

Counsell added, “Sometimes, when it’s a really emotional situation, it’s difficult. But it’s still a requirement of the job.”

Crow-Armstong has been dating his girlfriend, Hailey Lavelle, since the two met at Vanessa Hudgens and Cole Tucker’s wedding in December 2023. 

Cole, 29, played six seasons in the majors from 2019 to 2024. In a GQ profile published in July 2025, Crow-Armstrong called Cole’s younger brother, Carson, one of his “best friends.”
