How to Beat a Wet Memorial Day? Don’t Forget to Pack a Trench

As far as model style goes, Irina Shayk is known for her edgy streak. Her wardrobe has pinged between grunge, punk, and rock influences—and no shortage of all-black looks—over the years, both on and off the red carpet. Fittingly, her latest ensemble brought that same dark attitude to spring’s high-flying lace trend—with a distinctly romantic touch.
At the Palazzo Parigi in Italy, Shayk was seen in a fluttering black lace dress. The intricate, blossoming floral pattern was seen across a sleeveless number with a plunging neckline and midi-length hem, layered over matching black lingerie. The model gave the see-through style a slick edge with knee-high black stockings and glossy patent leather pumps, creating a monochrome look in the process.

Shayk also enhanced the see-through piece’s romantic texture with classically formal details. Her ensemble was complete with a black leather clutch with gold hardware, as well as a beaded black Dolce & Gabbana rosary. To finish her look, the star opted for a minimalist slicked-back bun and bright red lipstick—a classic beauty staple that’s symbolized romance and a bold attitude through the decades.
The model’s lacy look wasn’t just in tandem with her own edgy tastes, however. Lace has made a recent resurgence back into trend territory. New collections by Saint Laurent, Dolce & Gabbana, and Chloé have all utilized the romantic, delicate texture across a swath of styles, from sweeping gowns to floral-trimmed skirts and slips. Whether used as a girlish detail or to create a fully see-through piece, the lace trend has certainly hit the ground running. Dua Lipa, Kylie Jenner, Hailey Bieber, and Jennifer Lopez have all incorporated the textile into recent off-duty looks, while Zoë Kravitz, Kate Moss, Cher, and Cardi B each wore different takes on lace at this year’s Met Gala.

Shayk’s punky take on the trend showed how the traditionally elegant texture can be entirely individual based on its wearer. Through different silhouettes and colors, the sheer material can take on an entirely new context and feel. With an edgy assortment of 2026 outfits that have included a watch-strapped bra, bombshell slits, and plenty of leather, we’re intrigued to see how—and if—Shayk returns to lace again this summer.

To know Bella Hadid’s street style is to know it contains multitudes. The model’s off-duty looks vary between grunge, prep, punk, and sporty aesthetics, often with an influx of on-trend accessories. While touching down at the Cannes Film Festival, she delved into the latter, courtesy of a retrofuturistic ’90s Prada set.
Hadid’s minimalist attire hailed from Prada’s spring 1999 collection, featuring a sleeveless zip-up top and matching capri pants. Her set was accented by the contrasting red Prada Sport label, bringing the pair a mod touch. Hadid elevated her vintage look with a dash of glamour from thin gold bracelets and rings as well as a gold watch and round diamond earrings.

A pair of Puma’s metallic silver-and-black-trimmed Speedcat sneakers —a narrowed style that’s core to the ongoing hybrid “sneakerina” shoe trend—brought a whimsical flash to Hadid’s monochrome outfit. She finished her ensemble with angular silver-framed sunglasses as well as a chic, minimal black leather tote stuffed with a thick binder and corded headphones. The overall effect was sporty, sharp, and streamlined while still retaining plenty of ’90s nostalgia. Long before athleisure took over, designer Miuccia Prada was very much thinking about the nexus of sport and technology for her spring ’99 collection. Many of the garments were constructed in a synthetic material dubbed “techno-paper.”

Hadid has been a mainstay at the Cannes Film Festival over the years, complete with viral looks ranging from a gold-lung-topped Schiaparelli gown to a barely there Saint Laurent dress. With this year’s guests including Dua Lipa, Isabelle Huppert, and recently named Chanel ambassador Sandra Hüller, plus a jury that includes Demi Moore and Ruth Negga, Cannes’s 2026 red carpet has been a particularly fashionable affair. In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for Hadid’s next surefire viral look on the Palais des Festivals steps.

Dua Lipa’s just discovered the term “funmaxxing”—but it’s obvious the star’s been doing it for quite some time. With a maximalist fashion streak that’s packed with sultry and archival pieces, Lipa has clearly resonated with the term when she defined it in a recent Instagram caption. “Funmaxxing is an internet slang term describing the practice of intentionally maximizing enjoyment,” she wrote. The accompanying full lace ensemble featured in the post certainly fit the bill.
While posing with a margarita, Lipa enjoyed golden hour in a plunging black lace minidress. The swirling piece featured a floral pattern and flared sleeves for a romantic, bohemian flair. To further elevate her sultry number, the singer laced into a pair of Christian Louboutin’s sheer black KM Lace Botta boots for a monochrome cutout finish. Her look was completed with a glittering Bulgari diamond necklace and rings, plus—in true Lipa fashion—a shoulder bag covered in a golden leopard print.

However, this wasn’t Lipa’s only funmaxxing moment while enjoying the early days of summer. The star also snapped photos with pals, including Simon Porte Jacquemus, as she sparkled in a white lace miniskirt, sequin-fringed halter bralette, and linear diamond earrings.

Rounding out her funcentric range, Lipa snapped nighttime photos in a gauzy, belted black minidress and boxy leather boots. Large gold hoop earrings, a gleaming Bulgari Serpenti bangle, diamond rings, and Chloé necklaces accented with sunflower, seashell, and beaded charms brought her ensemble a free-spirited touch. As a Chanel ambassador under Matthieu Blazy, she also carried a sunny yellow latticework version of the French brand’s flap bag—which just walked the label’s Cruise 2027 show in Biarritz.

From full lace to breezy boho vibes, Lipa certainly aced a funmaxxing trend with flying colors. Indeed, with a repertoire including a flaming hot Chanel skirt suit, Chloé’s swan-shaped purse, and fluffy “mob wife” shearling, were you surprised? Call it fashionably radical optimism.
