It’s only May, and Star Wars fans are soon to be treated to their second official project of the year with The Mandalorian and Grogu, which jumps into theaters worldwide on May 22. The first Star Wars project of the year, Maul – Shadow Lord, just wrapped up on Disney Plus, but it’s already been confirmed that the show has been renewed for Season 2. The animated series was written and created by Dave Filoni, who also assumed the new job of Lucasfilm President after Kathleen Kennedy stepped down at the end of last year. There are other Star Wars projects coming soon to be excited about, such as Starfighter (starring Ryan Gosling) and Ahsoka Season 2 (starring Rosario Dawson).

2026 has been a great year for Star Wars fans so far. Darth Maul emerged from the shadows with a new Disney+ series that has not only become the highest-rated project in Star Wars history, but it’s already been picked up for Season 2. Leading star Sam Witwer, who does the voice work for Darth Maul in the Disney+ series, has also confirmed that the wait for Season 2 won’t be too long. Star Wars will finally make its long-awaited return to the big screen for the first time since 2019 with The Mandalorian and Grogu. The live-action feature film will be a direct continuation of the Star Wars Disney+ series that launched back in 2019, along with the original release of the Disney+ platform. It’s unclear what else lies beyond The Mandalorian and Grogu for Star Wars in 2026.
