In 1986, while recording License to Ill, producer Rick Rubin felt that “No Sleep Till’ Brooklyn” needed a little extra intensity, beyond the guitar riff he had initially written. Luckily for him, just down the hall, he was working on producing another, soon-to-be legendary record, Reign in Blood, with thrash metal band Slayer where he was able to convince guitarist Kerry King to perform the part.
