MetMalaysia warns of short-term thunderstorms with intense rainfall in Perlis, Kedah, Penang and parts of Sabah, Johor

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 — Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to hit all northern states in Peninsular Malaysia as well as several areas in Pahang, Johor, Sabah and Labuan until noon today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a weather warning issued at 9am, MetMalaysia said the conditions are forecast to affect the whole of Perlis, Kedah and Penang, as well as Labuan.

In Perak, the affected areas are expected to include Kerian, Larut, Matang dan Selama, Hulu Perak and Kuala Kangsar.

For Pahang, the warning covers Rompin.

In Johor, the districts expected to be affected are Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru.

In Sabah, similar weather conditions are forecast in Kuala Penyu in the Interior division and Tawau district.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 —  The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm, heavy rain and strong winds warning affecting Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and nine states until 6pm today.

In a statement, MetMalaysia said the affected areas in Perak are Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kinta, Kampar, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim.

The warning also covers parts of Terengganu, namely Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman, as well as Pahang involving Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Bera and Rompin, in addition to Selangor.

Similar warnings were issued for Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and parts of Johor, including Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian and Kulai.

In Sarawak, the affected areas are Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro and Mukah), Kapit and Bintulu.

Meanwhile, in Sabah, the warning covers the Interior areas of Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort, Nabawan, Keningau and Tambunan, as well as the West Coast, Tawau and Sandakan divisions, including Telupid and Beluran. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 — Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to prevail until noon today in six states, according to the Meteorological Department.

It said in a statement that the adverse weather will affect Perlis, Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang and Kuala Muda) as well as Penang.

Similar conditions are expected in Kuala Selangor and Klang in Selangor; Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru in Johor and Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu (Tatau and Bintulu) and Miri (Subis) in Sarawak. — Bernama
