KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 — An 84-year-old woman was found charred after a two-storey house she was living in caught fire in Jalan Fook Hin, Batu 12, Sandakan, Sabah, last night.

The victim, identified as Nicole, was discovered by firefighters in the living room at 10.44pm, according to Harian Metro.

It is understood that the victim lived in the house with seven others and is believed to have been trapped when the fire broke out.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said the department received a report on the incident at 8.38pm before deploying 13 personnel and three fire engines to the scene.

Firefighters used water from the fire engine tanks to extinguish the blaze.

The fire was brought under control at 9.35pm before the victim was recovered.

Jimmy said the victim was later handed over to the police for further action.
