Malaysian feature ‘Tarung: Unforgiven’ punches past RM10m at box office in first week of release

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 — Malaysian film Tarung: Unforgiven has recorded RM10.5 million in box office earnings since its nationwide release on May 7.

Produced by Alpha 47 in collaboration with Icon Pictures and Astro Shaw, the movie is also ranked number one on the GSC Top 10 Movies chart, surpassing several major international titles.

Director, screenwriter, and executive producer of Tarung: Unforgiven, Razaisyam Rashid, said he was deeply moved by the overwhelming response from Malaysian audiences.

“I am truly touched by the extraordinary support for Tarung: Unforgiven,” he said.

“From the very first day of screening, we could already feel the warmth and enthusiasm from viewers for this film.

“My hope is that Tarung can become a new catalyst for local action films to grow further, becoming bigger and bolder,” he added.

Actor, producer, and executive producer Aedy Ashraf also expressed his appreciation for the strong reception the film has received.

“This success means so much to the entire Alpha47 team and everyone involved in the making of Tarung: Unforgiven,” he said.

“We created this film with full dedication, sacrifice, and passion.

“Seeing audience reactions in cinemas, TikTok videos, and the positive feedback we receive every day is the greatest satisfaction for us.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported Tarung: Unforgiven,” he added.

The film’s first-week promotional tour across the Klang Valley drew thousands of fans at every stop.

Most meet-and-greet sessions were met with enthusiastic cheers and active interactions, reflecting the growing excitement surrounding the film.

Many social media comments from viewers who watched the film in cinemas describe Tarung: Unforgiven as a gripping action drama packed with realistic, intense fight sequences, supported by authentic and convincing choreography.

Audiences have also praised its emotional storyline, which resonates deeply through its portrayal of human struggles, along with strong performances that effectively capture the pressure and intensity faced by their characters.

Tarung: Unforgiven tells the story of Hatta (Mierul Aiman), a former silat champion struggling to escape the shadows of a dark and painful past after a tragic incident changes his life forever.

Driven by desperation to save his sister, he agrees to fight in an underground arena.

However, what begins as a fight for survival soon becomes deeply personal when he is forced to confront Isa (Aedy Ashraf) — once his close friend, now a bitter rival consumed by long-standing resentment.

The film features a stellar cast including Mierul Aiman, Aedy Ashraf, Bront Palarae, Zul Ariffin, Amir Ahnaf, Azira Shafinaz, Sharifah Sakinah, Ubai Amir, Sky Iskandar, Ikmal Amry, Aeril Zafrel, Razib Salimin, Shaharuddin Thamby, Wak Ruzaidi, Theebaan G, and Akmal Asyraf, alongside real-life fighters Jai JMT and Ijam Asri.

Tarung: Unforgiven is now showing in cinemas nationwide.
